2. How to pray
3. What is the purpose of prayer
4. Who should pray
5. When should we pray

Prayer is one of the most effective tools in the Christians life and therefore the use of it becomes important as it will dictate our success or failure in the Christian walk. Many have asked this question from time to time and everywhere we see signs of individual calling themselves prayer warrior indicative of their confidence and success of their prayer life.

PRAYER WHAT IS IT
Prayer is defined as the breath of the soul. It is the process of talking to God as to a friend.

HOW TO PRAY
The act of prayer is one which demands complete reverence and respect as when we pray we address the Great God of the universe, the Creator of Heaven and earth.  It is He who has instructed us on the necessity of prayer; and taught us how to pray. The appropriate response when we pray is to kneel and acknowledge God as “Our Father” showing that we understand that He is our heavenly father and we His children. We are admonished to pray without ceasing this makes it difficult at all times to kneel as prayer can and usually is done anywhere whether you are driving along the road, walking along the street,  or even when shopping and therefore it is not necessary to always find our self in a kneeling position. It is therefore highly recommended that we seek to kneel in our Morning and evening devotions or whenever possible in our quiet times.

Matthew 6:7.  We are advice not to pray and use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

To pray for the people who spitefully use us and persecute us. Matthew 5:44.

Prayer on the street corner should be avoided as it is not for a show. Matthew 6:5

You should forgive others as this will enable your prayer to be answered. Matthew 6:14-15.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF PRAYER?
The purpose of prayer is to recognize God as the supreme ruler and controller of our lives. When we acknowledge that he is omniscient and omnipotent as well as omnipresent we then understand that He is capable of sustaining and deserving of our highest praise; capable of taking care of all our needs.

WHO SHOULD PRAY
Since we were all created by God all are admonished to pray.

WHEN SHOULD WE PRAY
We should pray without ceasing. Which is always, therefore prayer should be heard always not just when we are in trouble but when we are happy.

THE TYPE OF PRAYER
The type of prayer offered will result in the type of results received. It is God’s will to give us good gifts, and so He asks us to come boldly to the throne of grace and ask and we shall receive.

The model prayer gives us an example of the way to pray; Matthew 6:9-13. we should begin by acknowledging that God is our father, while we give adoration to his name showing that his name should be reverenced, as we show the coming of his kingdom , reminding us that His will, shall be done not only on earth but in heaven. Most importantly forgiveness must be given to those who have offended us or we cannot receive forgiveness from God. Finally we should pray for the necessities of life, example food, shelter, as well as asking God to keep us from debt and temptations; as we await his soon return.

This article has given us an insight on how we can make our prayer life more effective.  May you enjoy a powerful prayer life as you seek to know God through prayer.
