What if we would walk in the path that God has marked out for us? Walking in the light of his love. What sweet counsel we would enjoy with the great God of the universe? Among the valiant men of the Bible Joshua was a wise general, It was God who selected Him because he had made him his guide. The first sword that Joshua used was the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. [Joshua 1:1, 5, 7 quoted.]
Joshua no doubt like all men had his temptations, there was every danger of his being brought under misleading influences. Yet his close walk with God enabled him to prove faithful in the execution of his duties. He too like all those who will become heirs of the kingdom of God has to follow a course of strictest integrity. [Joshua 1:8, 9 quoted.] God comforted Joshua when he would have swerved from the path with words of courage. Over and over again God charged him to be of good courage. But amid all his cares, Joshua had his God to guide him.
One of the greatest deceptions we face today is the fact that many think that in difficult situation we can solve our own problems we do not need the counsel or help from God. Many do not seem to realize that God is a very present help in trouble and he invites us to call upon him. The love of God will never lead any to make light of sin; for sin is hideous in the sight of a holy God. The love of God will never cover or excuse any wrong. God expect us to exercise genuine repentance.
Job another Faithful man of God had his challenges too however his lesson of steadfastness and devotion has given us encouragement to persevere in our Christian walk. Job did not neglect his duty to those outside of his household; he was kind and thoughtful of the interest of others. Amid the festivities of his children he was concerned lest his children should displease God. He offered sacrifices for them individually. Knowing how offensive sin was to God Job took the time to intercede for his children lest they forget who God is.
"As the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." The same sins that brought judgments upon the world in the days of Noah, exist in our day. Men and women have no self control where eating and drinking is concerned. As s result of this thousands are dying. And gluttony and drunkenness becomes the order of the day; this prevailing sin, of indulgence of appetite, was one of the reasons that led to widespread corruption. The scripture said their evil and sin reached to heaven. This moral pollution finally came to an end by means of the flood. The same sins of gluttony and drunkenness was the cause of the inhabitants of Sodom. Today we can still hear the voice of Jesus as his truth echoes through the centuries as he warned the world: "Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot: they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they build; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.”
