"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Sanctification what is it?
It is the willingness of man to obey the will of God. There are many people today trampling the laws of God and yet will say they are sanctified. How can that be when sin is the transgression of God's law. The law of God is the foundation of the divine government of God, it is the very Character of who God is.
Self- righteousness is not sanctification, If a man steals the law of the land recognizes that he has done wrong, if he kills the same applies, God cannot sanctify the transgressor of his law which his son came to honor and magnify. Consequently John says "if any man sin he have an advocate Jesus Christ the righteous (1 John 2:1). It is impossible for God to lower the standard of His law to please man, rather man must come up to God's standard.
So through faith we trust and obey and rely on the merits of our Saviour Jesus Christ to help us to live according to His will. Christ came to pay that debt for the sinner which it was impossible for him to pay for himself. Thus, through the atoning sacrifice of Christ, sinful man was granted another trial.
"Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7). Unless the truths of God's Word, when presented to the conscience, are received and then faithfully carried out in the life, no man will be able to see the kingdom of heaven.
My dear friends sincerity will not convert error to truth. A man may swallow poison, thinking it is food; but his sincerity will not save him from the effects of it, one writer tells us that the road to hell is paved with many good intentions. Let us heed the command of the Lord and love the Lord thy God with all our heart, mind, and soul and let us keep his commandments for the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. (psalm 19:7)
Let us by His divine grace walk and work by faith, trusting Him to help us live each passing day to please Him, as we await His return.
