A Gift |
Talents or gifts as we often call them are varied, today we look at property. In the story of the rich young ruler Christ ask the rich lawyer to sell all he had and relieve the suffering of the poor, alas he would not, from the record we saw, he could not; for his heart was where his treasure is. Matt 10:21 The Lord was able to ask of him to sell all because the earth is the Lord’s, the world and everything in it. And so had he recognized that he was just a mere steward of the masters goods he would not have been guilty of idolatry.
Strength as a talent is also overlooked, and as a result of this many can be seen sacrificing their health to accumulate wealth. Which when they have received it renders them unfit to enjoy it. Many have forgotten that our bodies belong to God. It is He who has created it, and He who has paid the price of redemption for us.
Influence another talent, and many will be held accountable for the misuse of this gift. It is a power for good when God is allowed to live out His life within us. The influence of a holy life is not only felt at home but abroad. Practicality and self-sacrifice should mark the life of the individual who bears the name of God so that the influence for good upon those with whom he associates can be felt.
When we recognize that these gifts were not given to us to serve ourselves only but to relieve suffering wherever we can, to encourage the downhearted, to make the place where we live a better place, then God is glorified.
