Can you think of the most difficult questions you have ever been asked? When was the last time someone asked you a question that caused you to stop and ponder on the answer to this all important Question? Do not allow anything to draw your attention from this question, "What shall you do to inherit eternal life?" (Luke 10:25). This was the question asked by the rich young ruler which today still needs to be answered by all.
What shall I do to inherit eternal life? It is God’s desire that we think soberly and candidly about this important question. We are required to "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. . . . This do, and thou shalt live" (Luke 10:27, 28). All who will conform their lives to the plain requirements of God's Word will inherit eternal life.
In Romans 3:23 we read that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. However God has made provision for all to be saved through His Son Jesus we can receive pardon if we accept his offer of eternal life by allowing him to transform our lives. In Romans 7:18 we are reminded that “The suffering of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."
Our nature consists of three parts we are not only body but we possess a soul as well as a spirit. In other words we are a physical, mental and moral being. Because sin entered our universe we all therefore stand in need of a Saviour. Matthew 1:21. "And she shall bring forth a son, and thus shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."
Many look for a deliverer in governments, some in philosophers others in the stars however the bible tells us in Acts 4:12. “Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1 Timothy 2:5, 6) Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. (Galatians 3:20). And for this cause he is the mediator of the New Testament that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgression that was under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.” (Hebrews 9:15).
As we give our hearts to the Lord indicating we are willing to walk according to his standard God dwells with us enabling us to do so successfully. “And the word was made flesh and dwell among us." (John 1:14).
What will your answer be today? “What will you do to inherit eternal life?” Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. Let us truly believe and receive Christ Jesus in our lives that we can receive the power he gives that will help us to live a victorious life. (John 1:12,13;(John 14:23);(John 14:17).
