The Two Worshippers

The Bible is filled with stories about the display of pride and the attitude found among many believers. The story about the two worshipers is one of my all time favorite because it allows all to see that God is no respecter of persons therefore it does not matter if you are religious or not in God’s eye there is a wrong action and there is a right action and it does not matter who you are.

"Unto the self righteous this parable was given. To all those who despised others, and esteemed themselves above others Christ addressed with this parable, his intention was to address their pathetic condition. This one was called, “The two worshippers,” one a Pharisee and the other a Publican.

Seed: the Mustard Seed

"What shall we say the Kingdom of God is like?  What parable shall we use to explain it?  It is like this. A man takes a mustard seed, the smallest seed in the world, and plants it in the ground.  After a while it grows up and becomes the biggest of all plants. It puts out such large branches that the birds come and make their nests in its shade." (Mark 4:31-32) .

The Mustard seeds are small round seeds from the mustard plants. The seeds are usually 1 or 2 mm in diameter. They vary in colour from yellowish white to black; these seeds are used as spices. The mustard seed takes about three to ten days to germinate depending on the right climate.

It is a marvel how something so small as a mustard seed has the capacity to grow into a massive tree, as we look at the spiritual lesson of the mustard seed we see many spiritual messages hidden within this seed parable.

The City

a city
“The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendour into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honour of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life. Revelation 21:23-27

Gift: What is your unique gift?

A Gift
Everyone has been gifted, all have been given unique gifts to be used to enhance their lives and the lives of others. These unique gifts are namely --an intellect to originate, a heart to be the place of His throne, affection to flow out in blessings to others, a conscience to convict of sin. Each one has received something from the Master, and each one is to do his part in supplying the needs of God's work.”

The Literary Value Of The Bible

Lilly
"Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of these." Luke 12: 26 - 28.

There are many people who do not look upon the Bible as a readable book; yet its pages are full of unusual charm. It is a book full of marvellous incidents and engaging history, with sunny pictures of old world scenery, and charming and pathetic anecdotes of patriarchal times. Any one who wishes literature having unity, variety, beauty, strength, and interest, can find it in this volume of sixty-six books.

The Blade: then the Ear

blade of grass
Everyone loves a beautiful story, so as Jesus put forth these amazing stories it excited his hearers, and draw forth some very thought provoking questions.

Mark 4:26 "And He said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; and should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come."

YOLO: you only live once

The first time I saw this “YOLO” I had no clue what it meant and so I asked my daughter who remarked to my surprise “You only live once.” I must confess I was taken aback, because it is written everywhere and the young especially quotes it so often. I wondered if they actually believe this to be so or they were just saying it to be cool.

The Bible is very clear about the state of man. It tells of the creation of Adam and Eve and their brief encounter in the garden with the arch –deceiver formerly Lucifer now Satan. How he persuaded them to eat of the tree which God had told them not to eat of. From the records we know that it was never God’s intention for man to die, but as a result of our first parents disobedience death was passed unto all men. However we see the Creator Christ Himself coming to earth to redeem man so that the curse of Sin may be broken.

The Parable Of The Talents

Money
Matthew 25:14-22, 24,26.  "The kingdom of heaven, is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.”(Matt 25:14)
