The Elect

Bible
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."  2 Timothy 2:15

Wherever the truths of the gospel is  proclaimed, those who honestly desire to do right will be led into the path of truth.  Especially those who are diligently searching the Scriptures. We should seek to follow the example of the Bereans, searching the Scriptures daily. Whenever unpopular Bible truths are presented, many refuse to make this investigation, and manifest the utmost reluctance to study the evidences offered. Some assume that even if these doctrines are indeed true, it matters little whether or not they accept it. Why do we find it easy to cling to pleasing fables rather than study the word for ourselves?

I would like to suggest one of the reasons why many refuse to study and search the scriptures for themselves is because they exercise total confidence in those who are teachers of the word and therefore they assume that whatever is taught ought to be the truth because of who they are.

Another reason why many will not seek for themselves is because they tell themselves they cannot understand the Scriptures and so they never bother to take the time to put line upon line and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit in giving them the understanding necessary to grasp the truth of God’s word.

There is another class who will not search because they think that it is not necessary to do so, in addition they believe that because they have accepted Christ that is all that matters.

It was Christ who told His disciples that there are many wolves in sheep clothing emphasizing the need to make the Scriptures your only safeguard; to rely totally on the Word rather than the ministers. It is the will of God to teach us His truth and so it behooves us to take time to study the word for ourselves.

Just as the Father delightest in His Son Jesus, He desires to delight in us also. Let us strive to seek after God with all our hearts by reading portions of His word daily and then we too will hear the words, “Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect in whom my soul delightest.”
